About Me
Those fateful four words uttered at every new class, awkward first date, anxious interview or sometimes even in the corner of a sleazy party: tell me about yourself. I might as well bite the bullet and see if I can “sum me up”.
Well, I am 25 years old and have recently relocated to Sydney, Australia. My parents live in Qatar, but I was brought up in the South of England by my English father and Norwegian mother. I have only one brother who has also moved abroad to Switzerland, heading for a life of skiing vs my attempts at surfing. The rest of my extended family is pretty much scattered across every continent!
My international background and country-hopping parents have meant that I’ve never wanted to sit still. My father summed it up best: “your happy place is being in-between places”. University life suited me because I could hop between St Andrews, Abu Dhabi, friends in the south of England and then my own solo adventures. I love being on the move, although I also love knowing that I have somewhere to come back to. Having had enough of waiting for everyone else, I’ve recently fallen in love in particular with ‘solo travel’, realising that I can do exactly what I want, whenever and wherever I want (any girl’s dream, surely?).
I have also loved anything that will get me outside! This restlessness means that I hate being cooped up, instead always hunting for a hill or seeking a new road trip or exploring an adventurous destination. However, I also love getting dressed up for a night out, watching Netflix with friends, getting glam for a ball or heading to a luxurious spa. I’m the girl at the buffet who’ll “just have a little bit of everything please” – and yes, I mean both literally and metaphorically. Indecisive and adventurous, it’s not often I can just stick to one thing but here I am, wondering if maybe I can stick to a blog?
Don’t expect much: this is merely one girl’s account of her travels and tribulations around the world, exploring the outside both close to home and far away. Mainly, this is a way to let my parents know that I am still alive while also just jotting down for my own sake some of my explorations. If you’ve made it this far, I hope you enjoy!
